Privacy Policy
ApnaTrees is made by Stenark Solutions Private Limited, India ("we", "us").
Effective date: 11 October 2026.
We follow India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act).
In short: your family tree stays on your phone. We only handle the little that is needed for online events.
What stays only on your phone
These are never uploaded to us:
- the people you add and your family tree
- contacts we read from your phone, only after you give permission
- notes, circles and labels
- your backup files
If you delete the app or clear its data, this information is gone unless you saved a backup file.
What goes to our server
Only when you use online events:
- event details (name, date, place, message)
- guest names and RSVP replies
- an anonymous device ID, generated by the app, so your device can manage its events and replies
- if you make an invitation card, a picture of the finished card. It is stored so that the invitation link shows the card in WhatsApp and other link previews and on the guest's page. It is deleted with the event data (see below), or sooner if you remove it.
Signing in is optional. If you sign in with Google, we also store your Google account ID and email address so that your event history is kept across devices and reinstalls. We do not read anything else from your Google account.
If you sign in with Apple, we store your Apple account ID, the email address Apple gives us (which may be a private relay address that forwards to you) and the name you choose to share. Apple only sends the email and name the first time, so we keep them for later sign-ins. We receive nothing else from your Apple account.
How long we keep it
- Guest details (names and replies) are deleted a few weeks after the event (30 days by default). For events without a signed-in host, the whole online event, including the card picture, is deleted then.
- For signed-in users we keep only a summary of past events (for example, title, date and number of guests and replies), not the guest details or the card picture.
- Device IDs and sign-in details are kept until you delete them (see below). A device ID that has not been used for 90 days, and has no events and no sign-in, is deleted automatically.
- Server backups are kept for a limited time and then removed.
Notifications
Reminders for birthdays, anniversaries and events are scheduled on your phone and shown by your phone. They are not sent from our server, and we do not collect a push notification token. You can turn them off at any time in your phone's settings.
Crash reports
If crash reporting is turned on in the version you installed, the app sends a crash report to Sentry when it crashes. The report holds technical details (app version, phone model and operating system, and where in the code the error happened). It does not include your family tree, contacts, notes or any contact data, and we do not use it to identify you.
Sharing as a file
When you share your family, or a backup, as a file, it goes from you to the person you choose through your own apps (messaging, email and so on). We never see it and it does not pass through our server. What the other person does with it is up to them.
Ads
The app may show promotions for other Stenark products only (such as ApnaGuru and ApnaShishya). There are no ad networks, no advertising IDs and no tracking of what you do. To know which promotions are useful, the app counts how many times each one was shown and tapped on your phone, and once a day sends only those totals (for example "shown 14 times, tapped once") to our server. Nothing in them identifies you or your device. When you tap a promotion, the link tells that product's website it came from ApnaTrees.
Who we share data with
We do not sell your data and we do not share it for advertising. Our server runs on DigitalOcean (cloud hosting), which stores the data for us under our instructions. If you use Google or Apple sign-in, Google or Apple handles that sign-in under its own policy. Crash reports, if turned on, are processed for us by Sentry. We may disclose data if the law requires it.
Security
Connections to our server use HTTPS. The server is limited to the data above, and backups are kept private. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep a backup file of your own family tree.
Children
The app is not meant for children under 18 to use on their own. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has given us data, write to us and we will delete it. Under the DPDP Act, a parent or guardian gives consent for a child.
Delete your data
You can delete everything we hold about you yourself, right away: in the app, open Settings > Your data > Delete my online data. This deletes your online events, guest replies, card pictures and your sign-in details (email and name) from our server. The steps are also on apnatrees.stenark.com/delete-account, together with how to ask us by email if you no longer have the app.
Your rights
You can ask us to show you the data we hold about you, correct it, or delete it, and to withdraw consent at any time. To delete your online data (device ID, events, sign-in details), use the button described above, or email support@stenark.com from the address you signed in with, or tell us your device ID (shown in the app). We will reply within 30 days. You may also complain to the Data Protection Board of India if you are not satisfied.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above and, for important changes, tell you in the app.
